Rinka Urushiba juggles school with a part-time waitressing job to support her unemployed father, settling into what feels like an ordinary life in Tokyo. That routine cracks when she spots a flying penguin and follows it to a rooftop, where even stranger sights—like levitating goldfish—pull her into a mystery shared by her classmate, Kyoutarou Azuma, who can see them too. After collapsing when one of the goldfish passes through her, Rinka awakens as an esper with the ability to phase through solid objects.

Her power comes with an unmistakable tell: whenever she uses it, her hair turns white. Reluctantly stepping into a role she never asked for, Rinka begins helping protect the city as the “White Girl,” teaming up with Kyoutarou—now able to teleport—as they confront other espers whose abilities are used for far darker purposes.
