Synopsis

Masamune-kun's Revenge OVA collects three extra stories that lean into the cast’s school-life comedy and romantic mischief. In “Of Course, My Mom…,” Masamune Makabe comes home to be greeted by a girl he initially takes for his famously upbeat mother—only to find out she’s his cousin, Haruka. The confusion deepens when it turns out Haruka, Masamune’s mother, and Aunt Asae look almost identical, and Masamune’s sister Chinatsu convinces the trio to play along by dressing up for a bit of fun.

“Tsunade Island, Once More” returns Aki Adagaki and friends—Neko Fujinomiya, Tae Futaba, and Kojuurou Shuri—to Tsunade Island for another laid-back summer visit, while Masamune sits out after injuring himself by walking into a pole. His absence leaves the group with a mix of reactions, including an unexpected hint of loneliness.

In “Cinderella After Twelve,” Yoshino Koiwai finally gets a day off after finishing her work on Tsunade Island. With her sister’s help, she’s given a full makeover and swept into enjoying time away from her demanding maid responsibilities, discovering a different kind of satisfaction along the way.

Otaku Consensus

Masamune-kun's Revenge OVA works best as a SILVER LINK. bonus-disc comedy lap: the short-form direction and brisk pacing keep the franchise’s sharper assets, including tsundere banter, harem friction, and maid deadpan, moving faster than the main revenge engine often does. Its cleanest showcase is “Cinderella After Twelve,” which gives Yoshino a focused character-comedy spotlight; the lasting criticism is that the franchise remains lightweight and emotionally stalled when it cannot turn romantic teasing into payoff.

Why You Should Watch

Watch this if you want Masamune-kun's Revenge in its snackable mode: school-romcom chaos, harem teasing, and character bits without the burden of a new revenge arc. It is especially easy to recommend to viewers who liked the original series’ comedy more than its endgame plotting, or who want something closer to Nisekoi’s bonus-episode energy than the heavier melodrama that later Masamune-kun's Revenge R discussion often criticized. The OVA’s three-part structure gives Aki, Yoshino, and Masamune different comic contexts instead of simply extending the TV rhythm, and Yoshino fans get a rare segment where her maid persona is treated as more than a background gag. At one episode, it is a low-commitment return to the cast rather than a franchise homework assignment.

Key Characters

  • A
    Aki Adagaki(VA: Ayaka Ohashi)

Aki remains the franchise’s defining tsundere presence, the character whose sharp reactions turn even lightweight bonus material into a test of social leverage.

  • Y
    Yoshino Koiwai(VA: Inori Minase)

Yoshino’s appeal comes from the contrast between maidly composure and quiet mischief, and the OVA gives her one of the clearest spotlights among the main cast.

  • M
    Masamune Makabe(VA: Natsuki Hanae)

Masamune is most entertaining here when his self-image as the romcom strategist collides with jokes that refuse to let him control the room.

What Makes It Stand Out

  • 1

SILVER LINK. treats the release as compressed bonus material: one finished-airing OVA episode containing three titled vignettes rather than a conventional television chapter.

  • 2

The OVA leans directly into the franchise’s most visible AniList identity markers, with Female Harem at 85%, Tsundere at 76%, and Maids at 60%, making it more of a character-sketch showcase than a plot-progression entry.

  • 3

“Cinderella After Twelve” stands out because it shifts the comedic center toward Yoshino, a move that gives the series’ maid element more focus than a standard ensemble school scene.

  • 4

The Tsunade Island return is structurally unusual for the cast dynamic because Masamune’s reduced involvement lets the girls’ reactions and interpersonal comedy carry the segment.

  • 5

As a 2018 OVA positioned after the original TV series’ light-romance reputation and before the later mixed response to Masamune-kun's Revenge R, it captures the franchise at its least dramatic and most gag-driven.
