Mononoke the Movie: Phantom in the Rain

Inside the Inner Chambers—an opulent, tightly guarded world reserved for the nation’s ruler—life is defined by relentless labor and rigid hierarchy, from the lowest attendants to the most esteemed concubines. Asa and Kame arrive on the same day to begin work as servants, quickly forming a bond and promising to face whatever trials await as they step into their new routine.

But beneath the elegance lie tangled power dynamics, unsettling rites, and secrets that refuse to stay buried. As preparations for an upcoming ceremony are shaken by a string of bizarre incidents, shogunate officials are sent to look into the disturbance. Before they can restore order, the enigmatic Medicine Seller appears at the gates, insisting on entry to the forbidden quarters—and warning that the threat within is far more perilous than anyone suspects.
