Ayaka: A Story of Bonds and Wounds

A decade after a volcanic eruption nearly wiped out Japan’s Ayaka Islands, Yukito Yanagi has spent his life on the mainland, passed between foster homes and keeping others at arm’s length after a troubling incident. On the day he graduates from middle school, he returns to his birthplace at the request of his late father, Makoto, and comes face-to-face with Makoto’s disciples—and the islands’ hidden reality.

Ayaka is home to supernatural beings called Mitama, entities that can draw strength from human negativity and transform into violent Ara-Mitama that threaten the people living there. Yukito learns he has inherited his father’s role as a Ley Master, gifted with magic-like abilities meant to calm these dangers. With old wounds resurfacing, he begins training to master his power and carry on Makoto’s legacy by safeguarding the islands’ fragile peace.
