Synopsis
Detectives Ron Kamonohashi and Totomaru Isshiki have quickly become an effective team, closing one case after another with a mix of sharp intuition and steady police work. Their partnership takes on new urgency when they learn that the House of M, a notorious crime syndicate, was behind Ron’s expulsion from the elite Detective Training Academy BLUE five years earlier. The group may also be connected to Ron’s unsettling condition—an ability tied to the deaths of those around him, which he is determined to put an end to.
Before long, a House of M operative begins staging brazen serial murders in Shibuya as a direct challenge to Ron. With pressure mounting, Ron and Totomaru race to catch the killer, pursue justice, and uncover the truth about Ron’s past and the danger that still follows him.
Otaku Consensus
Season 2 lands as a solidly approved continuation rather than a breakout sensation, reflected in its close MAL 7.63 and AniList 75 scores. Shouta Ibata’s direction and Wataru Watari’s series composition give the season cleaner forward momentum than a purely episodic detective show, with the Shibuya serial-murder material functioning as the sharpest escalation. The recurring limitation is that its case logic often serves character chemistry and brisk weekly pacing more than rigorous fair-play deduction.
Why You Should Watch
Watch this if you want a detective anime with adult workplace energy, police-procedure texture, and comedy that does not turn the cases into parody. It scratches some of the same itch as Case Closed’s compact mystery format, but with a more modern urban setting and a central partnership built around professional contrast rather than school-life routine. The 13-episode Fall 2024 run is especially suited to viewers who like episodic investigations that still feed a larger antagonist thread. Diomedéa’s production keeps the emphasis on expressions, timing, and clue delivery rather than spectacle, so the appeal is in watching Ron and Totomaru’s methods collide: theatrical intuition on one side, grounded legwork on the other.
Key Characters
- RRon Kamonohashi
Ron is compelling because the series treats his genius-detective theatrics as both an investigative weapon and a professional hazard, giving his deductions a sharper edge than simple smug brilliance.
- TTotomaru Isshiki
Totomaru is the show’s practical anchor, with fans responding to the way his ordinary police instincts and emotional steadiness make Ron’s extreme reasoning usable in the real world.
What Makes It Stand Out
- 1
The season was produced by Diomedéa as a complete 13-episode Fall 2024 cour, airing from October 7 to December 30 without extending into a split-cour release.
- 2
Its AniList tag profile is unusually specific for a shounen mystery: Detective at 88%, Work at 80%, and Crime, Police, Primarily Adult Cast, and Episodic all at 79%, signaling a case-file structure rooted in professional investigation rather than school-club sleuthing.
- 3
The Shibuya serial-murder material gives Season 2 a stronger throughline than a case-of-the-week format alone, turning the House of M conflict into the season’s central pressure point.
- 4
The core creative lineup pairs director Shouta Ibata with series composer Wataru Watari and character designer Masakazu Ishikawa, a staff configuration that prioritizes conversational rhythm, readable character acting, and clean mystery staging over action-heavy set pieces.
- 5
The visual department is split across specialized roles, with Seo-Gu Lee as art director, Maho Takahashi on art design, Yuki Hayashi on color design, and Yasuyuki Itou as director of photography, reflecting a production pipeline built around controlled urban atmosphere.
