Kaiju No. 8: Mission Recon

In a Japan constantly threatened by kaiju, Kafka Hibino earns a living cleaning up the aftermath as part of a monster disposal crew. A chance reunion with his childhood friend Mina Ashiro—now a celebrated member of the Anti-Kaiju Defense Force—pushes him to chase the dream he once gave up: earning a spot in the Force and fighting alongside her.

Before he can even take the next step, Kafka undergoes an inexplicable transformation into the fearsome “Kaiju No. 8.” With support from his junior coworker Reno Ichikawa, he keeps his new identity hidden while training for the Defense Force exam. When unusually intelligent kaiju strike a Defense Force base, Kafka is forced to choose how far he’ll go to protect others without exposing what he’s become.
