Synopsis
With the gods-versus-humans tournament deadlocked at an unexpected tie, the divine side finds its authority openly challenged. An enraged Zeus answers the stalemate by calling in Hades, the fabled ruler of the underworld, to claim the next bout and restore the gods’ dominance.
Determined to keep humanity’s hopes alive, Valkyrie leader Brunhilde plays a decisive hand: Qin Shi Huang, China’s first emperor and a fearsome contender. Set against Hades in a brutal clash of legends, Qin Shi Huang steps into the arena to stake his claim to the title of “king” over both mortals and immortals.
Otaku Consensus
Record of Ragnarok III lands as a solidly received tournament sequel, reflected by its 7.62 MAL score and 77/100 AniList score, with the Hades versus Qin Shi Huang material giving the season its clearest dramatic identity. Kouichi Hatsumi’s direction and Yasuyuki Mutou’s series composition work best when the show treats mythic combat as a clash of royal ideologies rather than simple power scaling. The recurring criticism remains the franchise’s uneven visual execution, especially the CG-assisted action that can feel rigid despite the stronger gore, staging, and adaptation focus.
Why You Should Watch
Watch Record of Ragnarok III if you want mythological death-match spectacle built around adult egos, historical symbolism, and bloody arena logic without the training arcs or school-cast detours that pad many battle anime. It scratches the same itch as Baki’s theatrical combat psychology and Fate’s remixing of legendary figures, but with a more direct tournament structure and a harsher gods-versus-humanity framing. This season is especially for viewers who like fights where titles, pride, and rulership matter as much as techniques: Hades and Qin Shi Huang give the material a sharper “king versus king” flavor. The 15-episode run also gives the central bout more room than a compact cour would, making it easier to sit with the mythological pageantry and damage.
Key Characters
- QQin Shi Huang
Qin Shi Huang stands out as a human champion defined less by underdog energy than by imperial confidence, making him one of the franchise’s most theatrical answers to divine superiority.
- HHades
Hades brings a colder kind of divine authority to the arena, with his status as ruler of the underworld giving the season a more solemn and regal antagonist presence.
- BBrunhilde
Brunhilde remains compelling because her role is strategic rather than decorative, with each human selection carrying the weight of a calculated gamble.
- ZZeus
Zeus functions as the pressure gauge for the gods’ side, and his anger over the tournament’s balance makes the divine camp feel politically vulnerable.
What Makes It Stand Out
- 1
The season is built around a 15-episode finished run that aired on December 10, 2025, giving it more space than a standard 12- or 13-episode cour to emphasize one marquee mythological confrontation.
- 2
Maru Animation and Yumeta Company handle the production, continuing the franchise’s hybrid visual identity where traditional character art and noticeable CG elements coexist; AniList’s CGI tag sits at 48%, making the technique a visible part of the viewing conversation.
- 3
The Hades versus Qin Shi Huang material gives the season a distinct thematic hook: it frames combat through competing ideas of kingship, not only through divine rank or human survival.
- 4
The series leans heavily into adult-cast arena drama rather than adolescent power fantasy, matching AniList’s Primarily Adult Cast tag at 79% and its Death Game, Gods, and Mythology tags all above 80%.
- 5
Its genre mix is unusually blunt: Action, Drama, and Fantasy are paired with Gore and Mythology themes, while the tags also register Historical, Ancient China, Revenge, Shapeshifting, Torture, and Nudity elements.
