Synopsis
Fukuga Kurumi, a middle school student, is forever changed when her mother takes her own life after a devastating loss of 20 million yen in foreign exchange trading. Driven by a fierce determination to recover her mother's lost fortune, she steps into the high-stakes world of FX trading as a university student, unaware of the perilous twists and turns that await her.
As Kurumi navigates the complexities of the financial market, she encounters a colorful cast of fellow traders, including the spirited Yasuko Takane, the quirky Mochiko Kogane, and the enigmatic Mebuki Yamashi. Together, they face the exhilarating and often treacherous nature of trading, where fortunes can be gained or lost in an instant. With each market fluctuation, the pressure mounts, leading to a gripping exploration of ambition, risk, and the emotional toll of financial pursuits. Will Kurumi and her friends be able to withstand the relentless ups and downs of this thrilling yet dangerous journey?
Otaku Consensus
Early reception is cautiously positive, with Yuuki Ogawa’s suspense-minded direction and Kenta Ihara’s brisk pacing turning mundane exchange-rate movement into genuine psychological pressure. Critics especially praise the opening episode’s collision of a bubblegum-bright presentation with repeated warnings of impending despair, while the 7.3 MyAnimeList and 69 AniList scores suggest approval rather than a breakout phenomenon. The chief reservation is that its cute-girls promotional framing can register as a bait-and-switch for viewers expecting relaxed slice-of-life comedy.
Why You Should Watch
Watch this if you want Kakegurui’s addiction psychology without elaborate fictional games, or Mieruko-chan’s cute-surface dread redirected toward an everyday financial system. Yuuki Ogawa treats USD/JPY fluctuations as suspense set pieces, while Kurumi’s 300,000-yen starting stake and near-instant first profits make the market’s reward loop disturbingly concrete. The frantic opening, bright character designs, and primarily female ensemble deliberately clash with narration that keeps pointing toward disaster. Kenta Ihara’s writing also leaves room for real economic terminology, but the educational material serves the tension rather than turning episodes into lectures. It is best suited to viewers interested in denpa unease, gambling behavior, and adult anxiety disguised as colorful hobby anime—not anyone looking for soothing CGDCT escapism.
Key Characters
- KKurumi Fukuga(VA: Aina Suzuki)
Kurumi’s psychological hook is the collision between the discipline required to save 300,000 yen and the dangerously rapid reward conditioning delivered by her first USD/JPY trades.
- YYasuko Takane
Yasuko is held back with the other principal traders until the first episode’s closing scene, where her spirited presence signals the expansion beyond Kurumi’s isolated market experience.
- MMochiko Kogane
Mochiko’s deliberately quirky presentation contributes to the show’s uneasy contrast between an inviting female ensemble and the despair forecast by its narrator.
- MMebuki Yamashi
Mebuki is introduced as the group’s enigmatic element, with the premiere offering only a brief final-scene glimpse rather than immediately explaining her trading outlook.
What Makes It Stand Out
- 1
The premiere weaponizes tonal misdirection: a frantic, bubblegum-bright opening and cute promotional imagery are repeatedly undercut by narration warning that the traders are approaching despair.
- 2
Its financial tension begins with specific, comprehensible numbers rather than abstract wealth: Kurumi enters the USD/JPY market with 300,000 yen and initially earns more in five minutes than she expects, establishing the addictive feedback loop before the rate falls.
- 3
The story uses a time skip from Kurumi’s middle-school circumstances to university life, allowing the series to retain a youthful visual style while focusing on work, money, and a primarily adult cast.
- 4
Kenta Ihara holds both series-composition and script credits, giving the 12-episode production a single central writing voice for its balance of economics, gambling psychology, and tragedy.
- 5
AniList’s strongest subject tags are Economics at 95% and Gambling at 93%, followed by Denpa at 80%, a combination that captures how the series treats financial literacy as material for mental disorientation rather than conventional business drama.
