A century after a catastrophic event shattered the Moon into an unimaginable field of debris, Earth endures—protected by advanced technology that keeps most people from dwelling on the long-ago disaster. Haruka Amami, a teenage girl with dreams of becoming a singing idol, auditions for the Idolmaster Project expecting a shot at stardom.

Instead, she’s taken to a clandestine academy operated by the Mondenkind Agency, where she joins other selected girls training to pilot iDOLs: sophisticated mecha built to destroy incoming fragments of lunar rock. As Haruka adjusts to her new life, doubts grow about the agency’s true motives—and about the iDOLs themselves, especially Imber, which seems to answer her with emotions that feel far too real to be machine-made.
