But the confidence he’s found on his home roads of Mount Akina is challenged when the Emperor team arrives—an outfit made up entirely of Mitsubishi Lancer Evolutions, the four-wheel-drive machines favored by many professional drivers.

Leading them is Kyouichi Sudou, who dismisses Takumi as a lesser racer for relying on an older car and holds an uncompromising belief in modern performance and technology. With the Emperor’s skill and mechanical advantage looming, Takumi faces a defining test: protect his unbeaten record or watch his run finally come to an end.
