Sound! Euphonium the Movie: Welcome to the Kitauji High School Concert Band

After a painful experience at her middle school regional concert band competition leaves her determined to quit music, euphonium player Kumiko Oumae starts high school hoping to turn the page. Yet Kitauji’s concert band is hard to avoid, and she soon finds herself drawn back in by the people around her—new faces like beginner tubist Hazuki Katou, seasoned contrabassist Sapphire Kawashima, and vice president Asuka Tanaka, who also plays euphonium. Familiar connections are there too, including Kumiko’s childhood friend Shuuichi Tsukamoto, now playing trombone after horn, and Reina Kousaka, a trumpeter who performed with her in middle school.

Inside the band, ambition clashes with disorder. Kitauji talks about reaching the national competition, but with the group in its current state, even making it through the local festival looks uncertain—unless their new advisor, Noboru Taki, can bring focus and direction to the ensemble.
