Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress: Light That Gathers

In a time of accelerating industrial progress, a strange virus spreads through humanity, transforming its victims into ravenous undead known as Kabane. Driven only by the urge to feed on human flesh, they can be stopped only by destroying their hearts—organs sealed behind an iron-like cage.

With the world overrun, survivors cluster inside heavily fortified “Stations,” separated from the outside by deep moats and towering walls. Travel and trade between these isolated enclaves depend on armored Hayajiro trains that cross via drawbridges. At Aragane Station, steamsmith Ikoma keeps the rail system running, all while seething at what he sees as humanity’s fear and failure to fight back.

Using his engineering skill and spare hours, Ikoma develops a weapon meant to turn the tide. When Kabane breach Aragane Station, he finally gets the chance to put his invention to the test—only to find the battle becomes far more consequential than a simple field trial.
