Synopsis

Mysterious disappearances on a passenger train leave the Demon Slayer Corps searching for answers, yet every attempt to stop the incidents ends in failure. With lives at stake, the Flame Hashira, Kyoujurou Rengoku, boards the Mugen Train to confront the source of the threat. Joining him are rising demon slayers Tanjirou Kamado, Zenitsu Agatsuma, and Inosuke Hashibira, eager to fight alongside—and learn from—the Corps’ renowned swordsman.

But the demon behind the chaos is already moving, and the situation quickly tightens around the train’s two hundred passengers. As the danger escalates, the group is forced to rely on unwavering resolve and sharpened blades, pushing Tanjirou’s sense of duty to its limits.

Otaku Consensus

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Movie: Mugen Train is widely embraced as a theatrical showcase for ufotable’s “jaw-dropping” craft, pairing high-impact swordplay with an emotional throughline that resonated strongly with fans (MAL 8.54 from 1.16M+ votes; AniList 84/100). Viewers consistently praise the film’s animation and set-piece intensity, and many cite its character-focused drama as the reason it hits harder than a typical shounen side story. The most common knocks are structural: some critics and fans point to pacing unevenness and a climax that doesn’t land quite as cleanly as the buildup.

Why You Should Watch

If you watch anime for pure audiovisual momentum—blades flashing, demons warping reality, and a camera that moves like it’s fighting too—Mugen Train is built to deliver. Director Haruo Sotozaki and ufotable turn a contained setting into a pressure cooker of action and supernatural dread, blending crisp character acting with spectacle that regularly borders on “how did they animate that?” But it’s not just fireworks: the film leans into the series’ emotional sincerity, using its historical-flavored world and shounen ideals (resolve, duty, mentorship) to make the battles feel personal. Best for fans of Demon Slayer, swordplay-forward action, and anyone who wants a big-screen anime experience that’s as intense as it is heartfelt.
