In Hinomoto, 150 years after the samurai were driven from power, everyday life appears calm—and the beings credited with that “liberation” are worshipped as gods, their true forms rarely seen. Musashi, however, has learned a harsher reality: humans are forced to mine rock to feed these demons, and the samurai remain the only force resisting their rule. Keeping his beliefs hidden leaves him isolated, even from his childhood friend, Kojirou Kanemaki, as graduation approaches.

Assigned to the mines, the newly graduated workers are confronted with brutal conditions and unsettling overseers. With Kojirou’s support, Musashi pushes through the ordeal until a demon leader’s assault turns the quarry into a battlefield—one that ends with the arrival of the Takeda samurai clan. Shaken but determined, Musashi sets out to become a samurai himself and gather a clan of his own.
