Synopsis
Seventeen-year-old high schooler Jirou Azuma can talk to animals, a gift that often lands him in trouble—especially when he picks fights with people who mistreat the creatures he cares about, earning constant reprimands from his grandfather. His relatively carefree routine shatters after he rescues a black cat named Ragou from near-certain death.
Ragou is no ordinary feline, but a powerful mononoke. When another mononoke comes after him, Jirou is outmatched and left on the brink of death—until Ragou repays the life-saving favor by fusing his power with Jirou, turning him into a rare human–mononoke hybrid capable of overwhelming their attacker. The transformation paints a target on Jirou’s back: Ragou’s kind seek to exploit that power, while the government’s covert Bureau of Espionage moves to contain the threat. Pressed into service by Ryousuke Shiba, Jirou must earn his place in a new anti-mononoke unit—or risk being treated as a danger to be eliminated.
