Synopsis
In a world where danger lurks at every corner, Shizuka finds herself entangled in the perilous life of an assassin, but the true weapon lies in her brother, Nagi. After sacrificing himself to protect her, Nagi is left in a comatose state, reliant on a wheelchair. Determined to revive him, Shizuka discovers that the key to awakening her brother from his slumber is to confront him with the very essence of his past—a relentless wave of killing intent.
As Shizuka navigates this treacherous path, she plunges into a violent realm filled with formidable adversaries. Each encounter not only tests her resolve but also brings her brother closer to the brink of awakening. With every confrontation, the stakes rise, leading them both into a chaotic dance of survival and redemption, where the line between life and death blurs.
Otaku Consensus
Early reception is firmly mixed: Polygon Pictures’ full-CG action, Hiroaki Andou and Tadahiro Yoshihira’s energetic direction, richly grimy backgrounds, and the Taira siblings’ darkly sweet chemistry make this a visually assured adaptation. Heavy-handed exposition, compressed pacing, and thin introductory characterization remain the dominant complaints, reflected in early scores of 6.49 on MyAnimeList, 58 on AniList, and 6.4 on IMDb. Its craft currently outpaces its storytelling, but the premiere establishes a distinctive action identity.
Why You Should Watch
Watch Tank Chair if you want the grime-caked menace of Dorohedoro and the CG-driven combat immediacy of Ajin, but in a compact, bloodier package built around a weaponized wheelchair. Polygon Pictures’ full-CG pipeline gives the early fights unusually clean motion, while Yoshikatsu Matsumoto’s art direction supplies the filthy dystopian backdrops that viewers singled out after the premiere. The real draw is tonal friction: clinical superpowers, genetic modification, gore, and body horror sit beside a sibling bond critics call darkly sweet. It is best for action viewers who value inventive fight hardware and immediate escalation over patient world-building or layered introductions. With Masaru Yokoyama scoring and two directors steering the adaptation, it offers polished spectacle even where the exposition-heavy script and compressed pacing expose the source-to-screen seams.
Key Characters
- NNagi Taira(VA: Kouki Uchiyama)
Nagi’s appeal lies in the dissonance between his physically dependent presentation and his reputation as the production’s most dangerous combatant, a contrast reinforced by Kouki Uchiyama’s casting.
- SShizuka Taira(VA: Minori Fujidera)
Shizuka functions as the adaptation’s emotional and tactical engine, with early criticism identifying her darkly sweet rapport with Nagi as the characterization that survives the rushed opening most effectively.
What Makes It Stand Out
- 1
Polygon Pictures uses a full-CGI production approach, and early episode reactions specifically praised the smooth, snappy action rather than treating the CG as merely functional.
- 2
Yoshikatsu Matsumoto’s art direction and Kazuma Teshigahara’s production design shape a grime-punk dystopia whose detailed backgrounds were among the premiere’s most consistently praised visual elements.
- 3
The setting extends beyond conventional assassin fiction through Guicheng Island’s normalized genetic doping, giving its superpowered gangs a body-horror edge rather than a clean superhero aesthetic.
- 4
The tricked-out wheelchair is treated as central combat hardware, giving the choreography a mechanical identity distinct from the swords, guns, and hand-to-hand systems common to assassin anime.
- 5
Masaru Yokoyama composed the music under sound director Masanori Tsuchiya, pairing a prominent anime composer with a production built around rapid, violent set pieces.
