Tenma Matsukaze arrives at Raimon Junior High eager to play soccer, drawn in by the school’s legacy from its standout run a decade earlier at the Football Frontier International, a tournament featuring top youth teams from around the world. But the program he hoped to join has lost the passion and drive that once made it famous.

In Japan, the sport is now under the control of the “Fifth Sector,” a shadowy organization that dictates match outcomes by ordering teams to win or lose. With the game’s spirit suppressed across the country, Tenma and his teammates set out to challenge that system and restore genuine competition—backed along the way by allies from a group known as the Resistance.
