Daphne in the Brilliant Blue

In a future where rising sea levels have submerged much of the Earth, 15-year-old Maia Mizuki dreams of joining the prestigious Ocean Agency, a paramilitary organization that serves the world government. Having just completed middle school, she aspires to a life of adventure and service, knowing that only the most capable candidates can gain entrance. However, her aspirations take a sharp turn when she fails the entrance exams, leading to a cascade of misfortunes that include eviction, theft, and even a brush with death.

With her plans in disarray and nowhere else to turn, Maia finds herself entangled with the unconventional help-for-hire group known as Nereids, named after the sea nymphs of Greek mythology. Alongside her new companions, Rena and Shizuka, Maia embarks on a series of odd jobs that range from tracking down criminals to more whimsical pursuits like rescuing lost pets. As she navigates this unpredictable new life, the significance of the mysterious "Daphne," which emerges as a central theme, begins to unfold, revealing deeper connections to her journey in this ocean-dominated world.
