For nearly a thousand years, a demon-created magical barrier has kept the nations of the world sealed in, cutting them off from whatever lay beyond. With that barrier finally shattered, multiple kingdoms turn their attention outward and form a peace delegation to reach the lands that were once inaccessible and open contact with their inhabitants.

Around the same time, the sorceress Lina Inverse is approached by a mysterious woman named Filia ul Copt, who seeks to hire Lina and her companions for a job tied to the newly opened outside realm. Filia, however, insists on testing their reputation first—by unleashing a dragon in the middle of the city. After Lina’s group proves its mettle, they set out into the unknown, where fresh escapades and an unsettling prophecy await.
