Tales of Saiunkoku

Shuurei Kou and her close friend Eigetsu To, a gifted young man from modest beginnings, are appointed co-governors of Sa Province—one of Saiunkoku’s eight regions. Determined to revive the area, they set their sights on transforming Sa into a hub for academic research, believing learning and innovation can finally bring the prosperity the province has long been denied.

When Shuurei travels to the capital to secure approval for their plan, the fragile calm in Sa is shaken by a spreading pandemic that leaves death and unrest in its wake. Trusting Eigetsu to oversee the province in her absence, Shuurei turns to her allies for help in finding an effective treatment. But Eigetsu’s unresolved personal struggles threaten to cloud his judgment, and political rivals seize the crisis as a chance to erode Shuurei’s authority—testing her resolve as she pursues her dream of public service as the first woman to take on such a role.
