Synopsis
In 2024, a terrorist case later dubbed the “Laughing Man Incident” shook Japan when Ernest Serano—the head of Serano Genomics, a micromachine company—was kidnapped and held for ransom. Six years later, the crime still hasn’t been solved, and Detective Yamaguchi, who has stayed on the trail, reaches out to Togusa of Public Safety Section 9 with a request to meet.
Before anything can come of it, Yamaguchi dies in an apparent accident, removing a key figure from the investigation. As police interviews probe suspicions surrounding the incident and those who may have interfered with the case, a new warning arrives from the Laughing Man himself—signaling that the elusive hacker is about to act again.
