Synopsis

Eighth-grader Shigeo “Mob” Kageyama awakened powerful psychic abilities early on, only to learn how dangerous they can be. Determined to keep his powers in check, he tries to suppress them—saving the occasional display mainly to catch the attention of his longtime crush, Tsubomi, who has grown tired of the same parlor tricks.

Seeking guidance, Mob ends up working for Arataka Reigen, a self-proclaimed psychic who’s actually a con artist more interested in easy money than the supernatural. Together, they take on spirit exorcisms as part of Mob’s increasingly routine days, even as his true strength remains largely untapped. But with so much emotion held back, the pressure keeps building—and if Mob’s feelings ever break loose, the result could be overwhelming enough to change him completely.

Otaku Consensus

Mob Psycho 100 earned broad acclaim as a tightly paced 12-episode action-comedy that pairs Studio Bones’ explosive, experimental animation with a surprisingly thoughtful coming-of-age core. Fans and critics consistently praise its character growth—especially the odd-couple dynamic between Mob and Reigen—and its ability to swing from surreal satire to sincere emotion without losing momentum. The most common caveat is that the early episodes can undersell the show’s long-term emotional and thematic payoff, and some viewers report occasional fatigue during extended, visually dense action sequences.

Why You Should Watch

Watch Mob Psycho 100 if you want a supernatural action series that’s as interested in self-control and growing up as it is in spectacle. It’s ONE’s signature mix of parody, satire, and heartfelt sincerity—built around a protagonist whose overwhelming power is the least interesting thing about him compared to what he’s feeling. Studio Bones turns exorcisms and psychic clashes into wildly stylized set pieces, but the real hook is the character work: awkward adolescence, messy mentorship, and the push-pull between ego and empathy. If you like urban fantasy with sharp comedy, philosophical undertones, and a story that rewards patience as it deepens, this is an easy recommendation.
