Holmes of Kyoto

Six months after leaving home, high school student Aoi Mashiro finds herself reeling from a breakup and determined to head back just to confront her ex. Short on cash for a train ticket, she takes two hanging scrolls from her grandfather’s attic to an antique shop in Kyoto’s Teramachi Sanjou shopping district, unaware that the appraisal will change the course of her days.

At the shop, Aoi meets Kiyotaka Yagashira, the owner’s grandson and a Kyoto University graduate student known as “Holmes”—a nickname tied to his name and his sharp deductive eye. As he examines the scrolls, Kiyotaka recognizes Aoi’s keen instincts and, moved by her situation, offers her a part-time job so she can earn the fare herself.

Working side by side, Aoi and Kiyotaka handle more than antiques: their daily routine expands into solving the concerns brought in by locals around town. With his reasoning and her intuition, the pair forms an unlikely partnership amid Kyoto’s streets and storied treasures.
