Within the Wahrheit Empire—where technology and magic coexist—unease spreads as whispers grow about a calamity set to return, known only as “the light.” In the imperial capital, transporter Innumael Grauer goes about his delivery route while trying to support himself and his sister. On a routine commute, he’s helped by Leocadio Wöhler, a newly enlisted soldier, and together they unknowingly load a suspicious parcel: contraband artillery tied to a criminal organization.

The Empire’s heightened control over weaponry turns the mistake into a death sentence, and Innumael is swiftly branded a smuggler. Yet the same syndicate that set him up may be the only reason he survives—for now. At the same time, Leocadio receives his first assignment: track down the group called Headkeeper, believed to be moving illegal arms. Their paths draw them into a widening conflict that reaches far beyond a single package, pulling them across the Empire as mounting unrest threatens to reshape everything they know.
