Modest Heroes

*Modest Heroes* presents three standalone short stories that find quiet courage in very different lives. In “Kanini & Kanino,” two tiny anthropomorphic freshwater crab siblings live in a forest stream with their father while their mother is away giving birth. When a violent storm sweeps their father downstream, they venture out alone to search for him, navigating a river where danger can lurk behind any stone.

“Life Ain’t Gonna Lose” follows Shun, a boy whose severe egg allergy turns everyday life into a constant risk, straining both his own patience and his mother’s as they face repeated close calls. In “Invisible,” an unseen man goes through a routine built to keep himself anchored to the physical world, enduring a life where no one acknowledges him—until a chance meeting with a gentle blind person during a storm offers a rare connection.
