With the Bebaus brothers’ fleet pushing forward and newly taken worlds left without enough representatives, Lafiel is assigned as Territorial Ambassador to Lobnas II. She and Jinto arrive to find a grim legacy: the United Mankind once used the planet as a prison colony, with roughly a million inmates confined to its only inhabited island.

The prisoners are split into three sectors—women in the west, men in the east, and a mixed central block where residents are sterilized. When the women seek to leave Lobnas II, tensions erupt into open revolt as the eastern sector overthrows the guards and takes Jinto hostage to prevent their departure. As unrest spreads on the surface, an enemy fleet closes in on the system, forcing Lafiel into a painful decision that may mean abandoning Jinto.
