After tumbling into a strange new realm, Kurumi Tokisaki becomes intrigued by a white cat—only for the encounter to end as quickly as it began, leaving her frustrated when they’re separated.

Before long, Kurumi crosses paths with Hibiki Higoromo, a white-haired quasi-spirit who reveals the grim truth of the Neighboring World: quasi-spirits are trapped in a deadly contest where only one can survive, and the victor earns a single wish. With the rules laid bare and danger closing in, Kurumi and Hibiki agree to a cautious, temporary partnership.
