Synopsis

Aspiring samurai Shinsuke Hyoudou’s life changes in an instant after he sees the reclusive Jinka Yamato and the fox girl Tama Youko wipe out a bandits’ hideout with startling ease. Tama is a katawara—one of a magically gifted people—and through a unique ritual she can lend her power to Jinka. The pair roam the land as vigilantes, confronting threats wherever they find them, whether the danger comes from katawara or humans.

As Shinsuke is drawn into their journey, he uncovers a darker side to the era: monks conducting cruel experiments on spiritually gifted civilians in an attempt to create human–katawara hybrids for battling monsters. After rescuing Shakuyaku from those experiments, the group gains new companions and continues forward, each chasing a dream of their own.
