Synopsis

In the wake of Jinka Yamato’s clash with Yazen, the balance between humans and the magically gifted katawara is thrown into turmoil. Word spreads of the fall of the dangaishu—katawara-hunting monks under Yazen’s command—and, as their influence collapses, renegade katawara factions begin to rise, further straining an already precarious coexistence.

Shinsuke Hyoudou, shaken and doubting his own worth, drifts into heavy drinking alongside Senya, a former foe who carries one thousand katawara within his body. Their path becomes entangled with Tsukiko after a rampaging local god’s sudden attack leads, through Senya’s involvement, to the death of her father. Even so, Tsukiko refuses to blame Senya and insists on becoming Shinsuke’s student; though he won’t take her on as a sword pupil, he begrudgingly allows her to travel with them. Elsewhere, Tama Youko continues her search for traces of Jinka—the nine-tailed fox said to possess the power to end the world.
