Kinokoinu Mushroom Pup

Haunted by the loss of his beloved dog Hanako, picture book author Hotaru Yuuyami finds himself ensnared in a creative drought that stretches on for two long months. Despite the unwavering support of his childhood friend and editor, Tsubaki Uehara, Hotaru remains trapped in his sorrow, unable to find the words to express his grief. However, everything changes when a peculiar mushroom from his garden unexpectedly transforms into Kinoko Inu, a whimsical canine-like creature. Intrigued and longing for companionship, Hotaru invites this enchanting being into his home, much to Tsubaki's dismay.

As Hotaru and Kinoko Inu navigate their new life together, the unconventional pet takes matters into its own hands, even deciding to burn the remnants of Hanako's belongings in a misguided attempt to lift Hotaru's spirits. The journey of cohabitation soon reveals itself to be a challenge, as the writer learns that embracing the past is essential to moving forward. In the process, Hotaru must confront his emotions and rediscover joy, all while tending to the spirited antics of his mushroom-shaped companion.
