Hana Haruyama has loved storytelling for as long as she can remember. Inspired by seeing a child her own age deliver a captivating performance on television, she begins practicing herself, entertaining the children of Tonaki Island with recitations they eagerly look forward to. Life in a small, close-knit community keeps her world comfortably narrow, and she’s content without imagining much beyond it.

When Hana starts her first year at Sumomogaoka High School, her talent doesn’t go unnoticed—Mizuki Usurai, the broadcasting club president, is quick to recognize her ability. Though Hana is hesitant and anxious about stepping into something bigger, Mizuki persuades her to join the club and develop her voice, with the ambitious goal of one day competing at the NHK Broadcasting Competition nationals.
