In This Corner of the World

Suzu Urano is a gentle, dreamy young woman with a love for drawing. Raised on the outskirts of Hiroshima, she spends her days close to her family and gladly lends a hand with her grandmother’s nori business, finding quiet joy in the routines of home.

When she comes of age, Suzu leaves that familiar world to marry Shuusaku Houjou, a man she scarcely knows, and begins life in his household. As she tries to settle into an unfamiliar place, the realities of wartime steadily tighten around everyday life, pushing her to endure homesickness, uncertainty, and mounting hardship while holding on to the connections she builds.

In This Corner of the World offers a vivid yet sobering look at ordinary life in Japan in the years surrounding World War II, capturing the resilience of people navigating a period that reshapes everything they know.
