Romeo's Blue Skies

Romeo’s Blue Skies follows Romeo, a gentle yet brave boy growing up with his family in a small Swiss village. His life is upended when Luini—feared as the “God of Death” for buying children and selling them into labor as chimney sweeps in Milan—sets fire to the family cornfield to force Romeo into his grasp. With the crop destroyed and Romeo’s father injured while trying to stop the blaze, Romeo makes a painful decision: he sells himself to Luini so his family can afford a doctor.

On the journey to Milan, Romeo befriends Alfredo Martini, and the two promise to find each other again after being sold to different masters. In Milan, Romeo endures harsh treatment as a chimney sweep, facing cruelty from his owner’s household and intimidation from a street gang called the Wolf Pack. When he reunites with Alfredo, they band together with other boys to form the Black Brothers, a fraternity of chimney sweeps determined to protect one another and stand up to the Wolf Pack.
