Haibane Renmei

Rakka emerges from a cocoon in Old Home with no memory of who she was, only the image of a falling dream. She soon learns she is a Haibane—marked by a halo and small gray wings—and begins adjusting to the quiet rhythms of life in an unfamiliar, enclosed town.

Yet that peace is tempered by rules the Haibane must follow, including a strict prohibition against leaving the village or approaching the walls that surround it. As talk of unexplained vanishings on the so-called “Day of Flight” lingers in the background, Rakka and the others are left to question what it means to be Haibane when even their own origins remain a mystery—while they seek release from lingering pain and a path toward salvation.
