Kogorou Akechi leads a private investigation outfit known as the Boy Detectives’ Club, a group that tackles mysteries both minor and major. While working a case, junior member Kensuke Hanasaki crosses paths with Yoshio Kobayashi—an enigmatic boy with amnesia and a body that refuses to die. After witnessing Yoshio’s strange condition firsthand, Kensuke proposes a bargain: join the club and lend his abilities to their investigations, and in return Kensuke will search for a way to grant Yoshio the one thing he wants—death.

Yoshio agrees with reluctant indifference, yet the club’s day-to-day cases begin to pull him into reluctant connection with others. As Akechi and the Boy Detectives dig deeper into their assignments, a larger menace lurks behind the scenes: the elusive “Fiend with Twenty Faces.”
