While returning from an errand, Takashi Natsume loses his way in the woods and is helped by a pair of traveling youkai artisans who craft sake cups. After drinking water from their “One Night Cup,” he’s flooded with newfound vigor—an enchanting effect that makes any drink taste wonderful, but only until the night is over. The next day, Natsume and his steadfast guardian Madara, a plump cat with a fondness for sake, attend a youkai banquet where Natsume is given a rare chance to learn the cup-making craft.

Natsume is left uneasy after turning down Madara’s sudden invitation to a banquet, and his regret pushes him to follow the cat to a dilapidated old mansion. There, the air is thick with the presence of many youkai, and the alluring spirit Hinoe reveals the estate’s true purpose: a hide-and-seek ground where victory grants control over a valley. With Madara still nowhere to be found, Natsume begins to dream of the mansion again and again—only now, he’s no longer just watching from the outside.
