In 1989, Japan enacts the Media Betterment Act, empowering the Media Betterment Committee (MBC) to seize, censor, and destroy works deemed “problematic” in the name of public morals. In response, regional authorities form the Library Defense Force (LDF), an armed organization dedicated to safeguarding freedom of expression. Within the Kanto branch, the Library Task Force (LTF) stands as an elite unit reserved for the most capable fighters.

Years earlier, Iku Kasahara confronted censorship firsthand when MBC agents tried to take the latest volume of her favorite series—only to be saved by a lone LDF member who protected both her and the book. Now in her 20s and still haunted by that moment, she enlists in the LDF hoping to follow in her rescuer’s footsteps. Training proves harsher than she imagined, especially under Atsushi Doujou, an LTF member who pushes her relentlessly—yet he’s also the one who recommends her for selection as one of the LTF’s two new recruits. As Kasahara strives to earn her place and understand Doujou’s true intentions, her battles unfold on the front lines and in the complicated emotions that come with them.
