In the turbulent Bakumatsu era, when Japan’s future weighs heavily on the hearts of its youth, Choshu soldier-of-fortune Takasugi Shinsaku slips aboard a government ship alongside his ally Katsura Kogorou. Their target is a mysterious “timepiece,” an artifact said to control time—power Takasugi refuses to let the authorities monopolize, even if it means destroying it.

But the moment they secure the timepiece, it’s stolen, sending them on a chase to Kyoto. What awaits in the capital is nothing like they remember: the government has fallen, Susanoo now rules, and the city’s streets—and the people who walk them—feel unsettlingly altered. With the country’s fate at stake, Takasugi and Katsura set their sights on turning back the clock and reclaiming Japan from the forces that have seized it.
