The Place Promised in Our Early Days

Hiroki Fujisawa and Takuya Shirakawa are drawn to two constants in their world: their quiet affection for classmate Sayuri Sawatari and the immense Ezo Tower rising across the Tsugaru Strait. Captivated by a structure that feels both distant and impossible, the boys salvage parts from a downed drone to build an aircraft they call the Bella Ciela, hoping it will carry them to the tower’s unreachable summit. When Sayuri joins their dream, the three make a promise to fly there together—an innocent vow shadowed by a Japan split between an America-controlled south and Soviet-occupied north, with tensions simmering around the tower that marks the border.

Then Sayuri vanishes from their lives. Years later, Hiroki and Takuya learn she has been trapped in a coma caused by a mysterious sleep disorder—and that her condition may be connected to the very tower they once swore to reach.
