After losing his family in an explosion, Mirai Kakehashi is left to a childhood defined by grief and hopelessness. Taken in by relatives who mistreat him daily, he sinks further into despair until he finally reaches the point of wanting to end his life. At the moment he leaps, Mirai doesn’t die—instead, he slips into a strange state and encounters Nasse, a winged being who calls herself his guardian angel, offering him two extraordinary abilities and a reason to keep living.

With those gifts comes a harsh new reality: Mirai is drawn into a deadly contest alongside 12 other chosen individuals, where only one will be selected to become the next God.
