By the mid-21st century, superhumanly strong individuals begin appearing across the globe. Clad in striking costumes and carrying out extraordinary acts in the name of peace, they come to be recognized as heroes—living symbols of the countries they represent. In Japan, that role belongs to 14-year-old middle schooler Teru Momijiyama, who operates under the secret identity of the national hero, Shy.

Despite her title, Teru is timid and inexperienced, often doubting whether she deserves to stand among the world’s champions. Still, she pushes herself to protect others and make the right choices. As formidable new dangers surface, Shy must learn to work alongside heroes from other nations while figuring out what being a hero truly means.
