Synopsis

In the vibrant Makoto Mirai Town, 14-year-old Anna Akechi's life takes a thrilling turn on her birthday when she encounters a whimsical fairy named Pochitan. A magical pendant whisks her back in time from 2027 to 1999, landing her in a world filled with mystery and adventure. Here, she meets Mikuru Kobayashi, an aspiring detective who shares her passion for solving puzzles and uncovering the truth.

As Anna and Mikuru navigate this intriguing past, they quickly discover that the town is plagued by a band of elusive Phantom Thieves, who are stealing cherished treasures from the townspeople. To combat this rising threat, the duo transforms into Precures, determined to unveil the mysteries surrounding the thefts. With each case they tackle, Anna hopes to find a path back to her own time, all while forging a powerful bond with her new friend and uncovering the secrets of their town.

Otaku Consensus

Star Detective Precure! is being received as a respectable but still niche Precure experiment: a 7.6 MAL average from 1,217 votes and a 74/100 AniList score point to approval without breakout heat. Its strongest hook is the Toei-produced fusion of henshin action with clue-chasing, crime tags, and time-manipulation aesthetics, with Kouji Kawasaki's direction and Isao Murayama's series composition giving the magical-girl formula a firmer procedural spine. The clearest reservation is its audience fit: the Primarily Child Cast and Kids tags make it less targeted at viewers seeking a hard-edged mystery anime.

Why You Should Watch

Watch Star Detective Precure! if you want the energy of a Precure transformation show filtered through detective-case structure rather than school-club comfort or idol-show rhythm. It scratches a similar itch to Detective Conan in its affection for puzzles and civic mysteries, but keeps the color-coded, team-driven momentum of Toei magical-girl anime. The unusual selling point is not simply that it has mystery elements; AniList’s high Detective, Crime, Time Manipulation, Trains, Coastal, and Urban Fantasy tags point to a series built around movement through places, clues, and eras. Viewers who like kid-led adventure with rules, recurring motifs, and a bright production identity will get more from it than viewers looking for noir deduction or grim crime drama.

Key Characters

  • A
    Anna Akechi(VA: Hikari Senga)

Anna stands out as a Precure lead whose appeal is tied less to raw cheerfulness than to curiosity, puzzle-solving instincts, and the series' time-displacement angle.

  • M
    Mikuru Kobayashi(VA: Kaede Hondo)

Mikuru gives the main duo its detective texture, functioning as the character most directly aligned with the show's clue-chasing identity.

  • L
    Luluka Moria(VA: Nao Touyama)

Luluka is positioned as a main-cast presence backed by Nao Touyama, a casting choice that immediately draws attention from seiyuu-focused fans.

  • C
    Cure Eclair

Cure Eclair is notable in the current database listing because the role is marked as main while the voice actor remains unlisted.

What Makes It Stand Out

  • 1

The series is a Toei Animation original credited to Izumi Toudou, keeping it within the studio identity associated with Precure rather than positioning it as a manga or light-novel adaptation.

  • 2

Its genre mix is unusually specific for a magical-girl entry: AniList tags rate Female Protagonist at 100%, Henshin at 96%, Detective at 91%, Time Manipulation at 82%, and Crime at 79%.

  • 3

The setting profile is more concrete than the average abstract fantasy stage, with AniList tags calling out Coastal, Trains, Urban Fantasy, and Urban elements at high percentages.

  • 4

The production credits separate multiple layers of visual control: Akane Yano handles character design, Minori Imai handles art design, Satoshi Takezawa handles color design, Eiji Hamano is chief art director, and Yoshiyuki Anzai directs photography.

  • 5

The music is credited to two composers, Erika Fukasawa and Misaki Umase, giving the show a dual-composer identity rather than a single named soundtrack lead.
