Synopsis
A decade after a mysterious meteorite impacts Earth, a unique group known as "Rams Carriers" emerges, endowed with extraordinary abilities called "Rams." However, these individuals can only thrive within the confines of Shinkatsushika, a town enveloped by the enigmatic Mebius Dust released from a colossal crystal, which restricts their freedom and keeps them from venturing beyond its borders.
In this isolated town, the Rams Carrier youth find a way to cope with their limitations by engaging in a competitive game focused on territory conquest. High schooler Araki, along with his younger sister Stella and childhood friend Olga, form a team named "Polis Hopper" to immerse themselves in the excitement of the game. Their lives take an unexpected turn when Professor Yuda, a researcher delving into the mysteries of Rams, invites them to partake in a groundbreaking experiment that could alter their paths forever.
Otaku Consensus
Mebius Dust is landing as a divisive original TV anime rather than a breakout, with early audience metrics sitting at 5.75 on MyAnimeList and 53/100 on AniList. Its strongest asset is the production identity: Doga Kobo backing an original Hajime Shinagawa concept with dedicated action and prop-design credits, giving the series a more specific visual-engineering footprint than its sparse genre listing suggests. The clearest criticism is identity friction: MAL lists its genres as unknown while AniList tags range from Vampire and Kids to Terrorism and Class Struggle, and the low early scores suggest the show has not yet made that tonal mix convincing to a broad audience.
Why You Should Watch
Watch Mebius Dust if you want a closed-city superpower anime built around rules, teams, and territory pressure rather than another isekai power ladder. It scratches a similar itch to World Trigger’s tactical competition and A Certain Scientific Railgun’s youth-power ecosystem, but with a stranger metadata profile: MAL has no fixed genre or theme labels, while AniList flags Vampire at 79% and Kids at 60%, a combination that makes the show feel hard to file. Doga Kobo’s involvement also gives it curiosity value for viewers who know the studio more for character-driven polish than grim speculative setups. This is for fans who enjoy watching an original anime define its own vocabulary in real time, even if that means accepting uneven early reception and an audience still deciding what the series is.
Key Characters
- AAraki(VA: Yuuto Takenaka)
Araki functions as the central competitive viewpoint, interesting less as a chosen-one figure than as the player through whom the show frames team strategy and adolescent risk-taking.
- OOlga(VA: Haruka Satou)
Olga stands out as the childhood-friend presence whose role gives the main trio a lived-in social history before the larger experiment-driven stakes enter the picture.
- SStella(VA: Nene Hieda)
Stella adds sibling dynamics to the team core, giving Polis Hopper a family tension that differentiates it from a standard school-club ensemble.
What Makes It Stand Out
- 1
Mebius Dust is an original anime project, with Hajime Shinagawa credited for both the original plan and original character design rather than the series adapting a manga, light novel, or game.
- 2
Doga Kobo is the listed studio, making this a notable entry in the studio’s catalog because the available tags point toward superpowers, police, terrorism, class conflict, and a high Vampire tag instead of a conventional slice-of-life or rom-com framework.
- 3
The design pipeline is unusually visible in the staff list: Hatsume Kojima handles character design, Keiko Ichihara handles sub-character design, and Kyouko Nagata with Hiroyuki Ogura are both credited on prop design.
- 4
The action side has named specialists attached, with Takashi Hashimoto and Waikwan Suen credited as action animators, a checkable signal that the production is not treating the competition sequences as purely dialogue-driven.
- 5
Its database identity is unusually unstable for a currently airing title: MAL lists genres as unknown and no themes, while AniList’s highest tag is Vampire at 79%, followed by Kids at 60% and several 20% tags including School, Police, and Class Struggle.
