Yawara!

Yawara Inokuma is a high schooler who dreams of a simple, pleasant future—living like an ordinary young lady and maybe even finding a charming boyfriend along the way. Her plans are complicated by a gift she’d rather not have: extraordinary skill in judo, a sport she doesn’t see as fitting the life she wants.

Adding to the pressure is her grandfather, Jigorou Inokuma, a seventh-dan judo master determined to shape her into a major Japanese star of the 1990s. Yawara tries to keep her strength under wraps to protect her everyday reputation, but circumstances keep forcing her to step onto the mat. Meanwhile, Kousaku Matsuda, a reporter for a small-time newspaper, watches her potential closely and looks for any chance to pull her into the public eye.
