Chitose Fujinomiya's life takes a dramatic turn when her affluent lifestyle crumbles following her father's passing, leaving her with mounting debts and a single cherished possession: a pink goldfish named Gyopi-chan. Cast out from the elite City Academy, where she felt at home among the wealthy, Chitose finds herself adrift in a world far removed from her former life.

Her journey leads her to the unconventional Inaka no Chugakko, a rural junior high school where camaraderie reigns amidst an atmosphere of simplicity. Surrounded by friendly yet rough-around-the-edges classmates and the occasional farm animal wandering through the halls, Chitose is confronted with the stark contrast of her new environment. As she navigates her unexpected circumstances, she must grapple with her past and learn to adapt to a lifestyle she never expected.
