Asura

Amid an era ravaged by famine and misery, a boy enters the world only to be rejected by his own mother. Left to fend for himself, he survives by any means necessary, consuming whatever he can find—even resorting to human flesh.

Just as his life seems destined to remain entirely feral, a wandering monk offers him compassion, gives him the name Asura, and teaches him the nembutsu in the hope that he might one day live as a person. Still fighting to stay alive, Asura is shaken by several pivotal encounters that force him to reconsider the only existence he has ever known.
