Sunday Without God

God has turned away from the world, leaving behind a strange, stalled existence: no one can truly die, no new life can be born, and the dead linger uneasily among the living. Before departing, God’s final gift was the creation of “gravekeepers,” mysterious figures who can lay the dead to rest through proper burial. In a remote village, cheerful yet inexperienced Ai takes up that role after her mother’s death.

Ai’s life is upended when a man calling himself Hampnie Hambart—said to be her father—appears and murders everyone in her village. With nothing left to anchor her and no clear path ahead, she chooses to travel alongside him. On the road, Ai continues her work as a gravekeeper, offering peace to the dead and help to the living, while gradually uncovering more about the broken world God abandoned.
