The Day the Earth Moved

In the bustling neighborhood of eastern Kobe, Tsuyoshi Takahashi is a driven sixth grader with dreams of attending a prestigious private school. His days are consumed by rigorous study, leaving little room for the distractions of childhood. When asked for help, Tsuyoshi often feels his ambitions are compromised, leading to a growing frustration with the demands of those around him.

Everything changes on the morning of January 17, 1995, when a devastating earthquake strikes Kobe City, leaving destruction in its wake. Tsuyoshi and his family narrowly escape their damaged home and seek refuge at his school. As they navigate the challenges of survival, including communal living and resource rationing, Tsuyoshi and his peers are introduced to the spirit of resilience and community through the dedication of volunteers. This transformative experience forces them to confront their priorities and redefine what it means to support one another in times of crisis.
