Utawarerumono: The False Faces

Haku awakens in a frozen forest with no name and no memories, surrounded by a world that feels completely unfamiliar. He’s rescued by Kuon, a kind young woman with animal ears and a tail, who guides him toward her hometown while fending off boro-gigiri—massive, centipede-like monsters—and an eerie red slime that lurks in their path. Once they reach safety, Kuon gives him the name Haku, borrowed from a well-known figure in local history, and he soon notices something that sets him apart: he’s the only person he’s seen without ears or a tail.

As Haku and Kuon travel onward to the capital of Yamato, they cross paths with new allies and begin to find a place for themselves in the country Kuon calls home. What starts as a search for answers gradually draws them into Yamato’s political tensions and internal strife, as Haku works to uncover the truth behind the red slimes and prevent conflict from igniting between neighboring nations.
