Utawarerumono

Utawarerumono opens with a badly injured man discovered in the forest by a kind-hearted girl named Eruruu. He remembers neither his name nor his past, yet he’s taken into her home, where Eruruu’s grandmother and younger sister, Aruruu, give him the name Hakuoro. Among villagers marked by animal-like ears and tails, Hakuoro stands out for a different reason: he has neither—and instead wears a mask he cannot remove.

As he settles into village life, unrest spreads across the land in the form of a revolution against a tyrannical emperor, and the approaching conflict soon threatens the quiet community that sheltered him. Forced into action to protect those he’s come to care for, Hakuoro also begins to confront the lingering secrets behind his identity and the strange circumstances that brought him there.
